Georgetown Loop Narrow Gauge Railroad 2012
Narrow gauge railroad was a necessity during the silver boom days of Colorado's past. The canyon was too narrow and steep to accommodate standard gauge railroads. The narrow gauge allowed steeper climbs and much sharper turns. Indeed we watched a thunder shower come through the canyon at the end of our ride and also watched the engine loose traction on the loop bridge and have to stop and wait for the tracks to dry before continuing on to Silver Plume.
